All of us want our house to be splendid and if you are reading this, surely you are an avid lover of #HomeInteriorsAndDesign. You want your house to look flawless, however small your budget is.
Am I right?
So, you are styling your home? Yeah?
Whether you have bought a new house and doing it from scratch or planning to redo your house like buying new furniture, wall painting or likewise; trust me, you don't want to do these mistakes, which I will be talking about in a while.
You would want to read this if you are tight on budget and cannot afford a professional designer's fees or simply because you want to take the charge yourself.
Scroll down to find out the mistakes people often do while #styling their house.
Here we go!
OVERDOING THE HOUSE
Do not stuff your house with accessories like there is no tomorrow!
Do not fill in showpieces, wall arts, etc. in an attempt to make it look rich and complete.
For example, if you are accessorizing your #ConsoleTable (or any other display unit/shelf for that matter), do not flood it with too many pieces.
It should not look cluttered. Just choose two to three pieces according to the size of console and you are good to go.
See the picture below.
When there are two many accessories, nothing seems to stand out and believe me, you really don't want this to happen.
Above rule applies to every corner of your house.
BUYING LARGE FURNITURE
Stuffing the house with large furniture is the most common mistake people do especially when buying a sofa.
Believe me, it's an eyesore to see a large sofa struggling to fit in a small space!
Choose furniture that is proportionate to your room so that there is enough space to move around and the room does not look muddled.
WRONG LAYOUT OF THE FURNITURE
The layout of the furniture should always be welcoming, especially in your living room. An L shape or a U shape layout (seen while entering the room) looks more inviting.
If the design of your room allows to keep furniture on opposite walls, then nothing better than that. It makes for the best #InteractiveSpace.
While arranging the furniture, remember that your guest should not see the back of the sofa while entering the room.
If at all there is a need to keep furniture this way, keep a seating with no backrest, like a #pouffe or a bench, so that it does not obstruct the view.
PAINTING A WALL DARK IN A POORLY LIT ROOM
You may like dark colors, but painting a wall dark in a poorly lit room can make the room look dark and gloomy.
So before choosing to paint a wall dark in a room, assess whether the room has enough daylight or not. If yes, you are good to go.
Otherwise, I advise you to choose a lighter shade rather than repenting later!
MATCHING EVERYTHING
It is good to have a color scheme but matching everything will only lead to monotony.
So, do follow a #ColorScheme but a few variations will always make your space dramatic. For example, this yellow color chair pops out so well in the entire decor.
It is also a good idea to style a corner around one color, but use it in small chunks, scattered. Like for a kid's #bookshelf, you can add accessories like small toys or planters in their favorite color and style the whole shelf around it.
Check the picture below. Here the yellow color stands out so well, adding happiness and brightness to the corner.
CHOOSING WRONG COLOR FOR ACCENT WALL
One of the craziest mistakes people do is to choose wrong color for the #AccentWall.
The aim is not only to highlight it but also make it look great. Choose either a contrasting color or a few tone darker shade as of the other walls.
While styling accent wall, don't forget to give it a personal touch like your favorite quotes or pictures.
So, now you know the mistakes to avoid when styling your home. Hope this will help you in curating a #BeautifulHome.
Happy styling!!
